How to be as prepared as possible for your trip with us
Tue 9 Jul 2024
1. Go for practice walks!๐ถ
Our treks can be physically and mentally demanding and do require some previous training: thereโs no better time to start than today! You can start with a walk around your neighbourhood or even find a nearby trail. Get out with friends & family and build up your confidence so you can give 100% with us!
Some pointers from us to help you get started:
- Set a goal for yourself! - a minimum of 10,000 steps a day is a good way to get yourself into a healthy, sustainable routine. Not only will this benefit you physically it will also improve your mental well-being. ๐
- Go out for a long hike at least once every fortnight before your trek. (Aim for one long hike around 3 hrs or above once a week). Get a support system of friends and family to push you that extra mile to ensure you are EA ready. Get your supporters to go out with you and enjoy the time outside together. Make it a fun experience for yourself, not a chore.
The sooner you get into a daily routine with your exercising the sooner the habit will develop. When the timer comes, the trek may get tough. So, training for your adventure will provide both physical and mental benefits when it becomes challenging.๐ฆพ
2. Appropriate equipment.
You can find kit lists on our website for each adventure we offer. Making sure that you have every item is essential for your safety. Check weather apps for the conditions of your destination close to your date of departure, packing any supplemental items you may need.โ
Make sure you purchase and pack appropriate clothing for your adventure, whether it be an extra layer for colder nights in a campsite, or waterproofs in case of rain. We recommend looking at the brands below as they are both sustainable and reliable:
- Patagonia
- Paramo Clothing
- VAUDE
- Alpkit
Bonus pointโ - once you have all of the equipment you need, go for a test run with your kit. Try it out, get used to wearing it, and find out if you do/donโt need anything else for your adventure! Also, make sure to break in those hiking boots, blisters are no fun when you are out on your trip. Be prepared, not panicked!
3. Research safety and travelling conditions.๐งณ
Your safety is of utmost importance to us! Have a knowledgeable understanding of how to act appropriately to keep yourself out of harm's way.
You want to make sure you are dressed appropriately to respect the culture of your destination. Have a look into customs and culture and have an understanding of what is and isnโt respectful in the country you are visiting. For example, in Nepal, shorts have to be knee length and women are advised to wear long trousers or skirts.
4. Sort out paperwork!
If travelling abroad, showing up for your flight and not being able to get on the plane after all your hard work can be devastating. Make sure your passport is valid and wonโt expire when you are away and that you have your visas sorted (if required). This is crucial if you are travelling abroad to meet us.
You must be certain that your passport is in date and that you have plenty of time left before it expires, you can check the expiration date on the photo page. If you find that it has expired you must renew it using the UK government website or your home countryโs similar page. Make sure to renew your passport at least 10 weeks before your departure as it may take longer to process.
Next, check to see if you require a visa, this can easily be done by looking up the country you are visiting and visa requirements for your nationality. Again be sure to apply with plenty of time. Donโt leave everything to the last minute!
5. Take care of yourself!
Prioritising yourself before and during your adventure is a must! Make sure you get enough sleep, have good eating habits, and enjoy the time you have to yourself. We want you to feel llama-like ready before taking on one of our challenges!
In the week leading up to your adventure make sure you get a minimum of 7 hours of sleep each night! You will want to preserve as much energy as possible so you are feeling your absolute best before your trek. Well-rested muscles are stronger as well as less prone to fatigue and injury! ๐ด
Fuel your body! Your body needs nutrients and good quality foods. Fuel up on a balanced diet with plenty of protein and veggies ๐ฅ.
For extra fuel during your trip, you can bring snacks that contain healthy carbs- found in whole grains, fruits, or veggies and they will need to be portable and able to withstand many hours in your luggage.
This includes foods like:
- trail mixes
- energy bars
- nuts and seeds
For some of our adventures, we will provide food for you. If you go onto student challenges on our website and look at the itinerary for your adventure it will tell you what is provided.
Taking care of yourself will build muscle, sharpen your mind, and boost energy levels needed for your adventure ahead! โค๏ธโ๐ฉน

Our website will have all the fundamentals and knowledge you will need to go on one of your adventures with us. Things to keep in mind: do I have all of my prescribed medication, are there any required or recommended vaccines needed for the country Iโm visiting, am I prone to dehydration and if so pack hydration supplements? It may be a good idea to bring a first-aid kit, although most of the guides will have one on hand, it can be nice to be prepared. You can find all the information in our resources.
7. Timings!โณ
Equipping yourself to be as organised and prepared as possible is vital. Ensure you know what time you depart for your adventure and you are aware of how long your adventure is. Consider creating a schedule for yourself and making a to-do list. This enables structure for the preparation of your travel.
